Out of sight, out of need;
Queer new Topographics
-Pedro ACeves

          I am a multidisciplinary photographer, My work consists of landscape photography and Augmented reality installations about queer topographies and aesthetics. In my academic career, I have been trained to see landscape photography Primarily through the heteronormative gaze. In queer topographics, I study the tension between the landscape altered by the acts of cruising, leaving behind traces that become a shared aesthetic of these locations, such as; mattresses, condoms, popper bottles, and so on.

          My current project is a return to the landscape through a queer perspective. Using my photography training, I create cinematic black-and-white images devoid of persons in order to render the image to its topographic state while protecting anonymity. The Augmented reality is meant to draw the viewer in and interact with the photography in a way traditional photography cannot. It is my hope to instill a sense of empathy after the experience as my work opens up the space for conversation in these queer landscapes.

My work's AR (augmented reality) component serves as an empathy machine and allows the audience to experience added depth.
